Privacy Policy
Last updated 2 September 2026 · Effective 2 September 2026
Byre (“Byre”, “we”, “us”) is a screen‑time and app‑blocking app for iOS and Android, published by RVA Studio. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how you can get it deleted. It covers the Byre mobile apps and this website.
The short version. Byre is built to work without knowing much about you. Your app usage, your blocked‑app selections, your schedules and your session history stay on your device. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we never see which specific apps you block.
1. Who is responsible
RVA Studio is the data controller for the purposes of the UK GDPR, EU GDPR and comparable laws. You can reach us at any time at abhay050@gmail.com.
2. What Byre collects
| Category | What it is | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Screen time & app usage | Which apps you use and for how long, read through Apple’s Screen Time / Family Controls framework (iOS) or Android’s Usage Access permission. | On your device only. Never transmitted to us. |
| Your blocking setup | Selected apps, categories, websites, schedules, daily limits, block sessions. | On your device only, unless you turn on optional cloud sync (see below). |
| Account data | Email address, and an account identifier — only if you create an account or sign in. | Our servers. |
| Purchase data | Subscription status, plan, renewal and platform receipt identifiers, received from Apple or Google. | Our servers and our payments processor. |
| Diagnostics | Crash reports and anonymous, aggregated feature‑usage counts (e.g. “a block was started”) with no app names attached. | Our analytics provider. |
| Support messages | Whatever you choose to write to us by email. | Our email provider. |
What Byre does not collect
- The contents of your screen, your messages, your notifications or your keystrokes.
- Your precise location.
- Your contacts, photos, calendar, health data, or microphone or camera input.
- A list of which specific apps you block — that selection stays on your device.
3. Sensitive platform permissions
iOS — Screen Time / Family Controls
Byre uses Apple’s Family Controls, ManagedSettings and DeviceActivity frameworks to block apps and read usage. Apple’s design means the app selections you make are handled by opaque tokens that Byre cannot read as names, and the data never leaves your device. We use this access solely to enforce the blocks you configure. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than the app’s core function, and we do not sell or transfer this data to third parties.
Android — Usage Access and Accessibility
On Android, Byre requests PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS (Usage Access) to show you your screen‑time totals, and may request an Accessibility Service to detect when a blocked app or website is opened so it can be closed or replaced with a block screen. In line with Google Play’s policies:
- These permissions are used only to deliver the blocking and screen‑time features you have explicitly configured.
- Data obtained through them is processed on your device and is not transmitted to us or to any third party.
- We do not sell this data, use it for advertising, or use it for any undisclosed purpose.
- You can revoke either permission at any time in Android Settings; Byre’s blocking will stop working, but the app will not lock you out.
4. Why we process your data (legal bases)
- To provide the app — performance of our contract with you: blocking, schedules, limits, statistics, subscription entitlement.
- To keep the app working — legitimate interests: crash reports, abuse prevention, security.
- To answer you — legitimate interests: replying to support requests.
- Optional analytics — your consent, where consent is required. You can withdraw it in the app’s settings at any time.
- To meet legal obligations — tax and accounting records for purchases.
5. Optional cloud sync and accounts
Byre works fully without an account. If you create one to sync your setup across devices or restore a subscription, we store your email address, an account identifier, and an encrypted copy of your settings. Sync is transmitted over TLS. Deleting your account removes this copy — see Delete your account.
6. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross‑context behavioural advertising. We use a small number of processors who act only on our instructions:
- Apple App Store / Google Play — payment processing and subscription management. Their own privacy policies apply to the payment itself; we never see your card details.
- Our hosting and database provider — storage of account and sync data.
- Our crash and analytics provider — diagnostics.
- Our email provider — support correspondence.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or to establish or defend legal claims. If Byre is ever acquired, your data may transfer to the acquirer under this same policy, and we will tell you before it does.
7. International transfers
Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or EEA, transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
8. How long we keep things
- On‑device data — until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Account and sync data — until you delete your account, then removed within 30 days from live systems and within 90 days from encrypted backups.
- Purchase records — up to 7 years, where tax law requires it.
- Diagnostics — up to 14 months, in aggregate form.
- Support emails — up to 24 months.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your data, to receive a portable copy, and to withdraw consent. Californian residents additionally have the right to know, to delete, to correct, to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither), and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To exercise any of them, email abhay050@gmail.com or use the account deletion page. We respond within 30 days. If you are in the UK or EEA and are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your local supervisory authority.
10. Children
Byre is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that age), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If a parent or guardian uses Byre to manage a child’s device, the child’s usage data remains on that device. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Account and sync data at rest is encrypted, and access is limited to the people who need it to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we will notify you and the relevant regulator without undue delay if a breach affects your personal data.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
